TOPIC: Summer Camps, Activities, and Planning
Looking for Summer Activities that provide engagement, skill-building, and fun for your loved one? In San Diego, we are fortunate to have a variety of summer camps, sports programs, and enrichment activities supporting autistic children and adults. To simplify the process, NFAR has assembled a curated panel of Summer options available in our community at low cost and/ or are vendors of the San Diego Regional Center.
GUEST SPEAKER PANEL:

Amy will be discussing Autism Society's:
Camp I CAN: Camp I CAN is available to participants ages 6-17 who have an autism diagnosis. It is a traditional day camp activities. Uniquely, each attendee gets a one-to-one or a one-to-two counselor depending upon their support needs.
AWARE Summer Program: This is a one-week community-based program for participants ages 18 and over, who have an autism diagnosis with a 3 to 1 ratio.
Surf Camp: At La Jolla Shores, for participants ages 5 and over including adults who have an autism diagnosis.

The City of San Diego Parks and Recreation Department's Therapeutic Recreation Services program provides sports, recreation, leisure and outreach services to people with physical, mental and emotional disabilities. Haley will discuss all the different types of camps, activities and supports available to individuals and during the summer.

Our summer sports programs will consist of bocce, cycling, soccer, softball, and tennis. In addition to our weekly programs, we also organize and run weekend sports camps twice a year. Our upcoming camp will be at Buckhorn Camp, May 15-17, 2026 in Idyllwild, nestled in the San Jacinto Mountains in Riverside County.
Our general ratio of campers to chaperone is 2 or 3 to 1. Campers needing 1:1 bring their own chaperone, someone who is familiar with their unique needs.
