San Diego is home to many summer camps, sports activities, art classes and other programs for children with Autism Spectrum Disorders. Kidzone Summer Adventure Camp - campers, ages 6 to 12, with any disability, siblings and friends, join the adventure this summer visiting fun spots around San Diego. Cost includes t-shirt, daily field trips, and admission and transportation costs. Inclusion Support - Other day camp opportunities are available for children ages 3 to 12 at City of San Diego Park and Recreation centers. Call 619-525-8248 •  to request inclusion support if needed. Requests are processed in the order received and according to staff availability. (Minimum three week advance notice is needed.) Partial scholarships for all TRS camps are available to those who demonstrate need.

Junior Wheelchair Sports Camp - Campers, ages 4-18, who have physical impairment will enjoy learning various wheelchair sports taught by athletes trained in each sport. Hi Fives – a social skills group for children with autism spectrum disorders at or around 5 years of age. Children will be screened by a psychologist for admittance into the group, with a maximum of six children with autism spectrum disorders and three to four typical peers. The group will include a parent-training component at the onset and in the middle of the 12-week group. 

Girl Talk – a social skills group serving girls with autism spectrum disorders between 8-10 or 10-12 years of age. Children will be screened by a psychologist prior to admittance into the group to ensure appropriate placement and to assist with establishing individual goals. 

Meet Up – a co-ed social skills group for children with autism spectrum disorders between 8-10 or 10-12 years of age. PEERS – a social skills group for teens with autism Spectrum Disorders. PEERS (Program for the Education and Enrichment of Relationship Skills) is an evidence-based social skills intervention providing teems with the tools needed for building and maintaining positive friendships. PEERS also includes a parent group to equip families in assisting their teem with social relationship. A thorough screening is completed prior to admittance into the group to ensure appropriate placement and to assist with establishing individual goals.

AUTISM SOCIETY OF AMERICA

Camp I Can­ - Children participating in camp will have the opportunity to go on daily field trips to places such as Pump It Up, Belmont Park, Kearny Mesa Bowl, Reuben H. Fleet Science Center, the San Diego Zoo and Chuck E. Cheese. The staff to camper ratio is low to insure maximum safety and optimize participation. Each camper is evaluated for their needs and is provided a high level of experienced, knowledgeable supervision. No camper is turned away based upon need.

Surf Camp La Jolla Shores - open to San Diego County residents 5 years and older. Membership in the SDASA, and proof of diagnosis is required for enrollment. Camp begins July 7th for 8 consecutive weeks. Each camper is paired with a one-on-one aide who is experienced with persons with autism and surfing.

The Arc of San Diego's traditional summer resident camp for children, teens and adults, offers you a relaxing week at the Cuyamaca Outdoor School in Descanso. Your days are filled with swimming, hiking, sports, field trips, sing-a-longs, talent shows, dances, carnivals and camp crafts. BANYAN TREE LEARNING CENTER

Academic training can improve skills in as little as 5 - 8 weeks. Banyan Tree offers a variety of programs for improvement in areas of cognitive processing, attention, working memory, reading, language and more. Their Summer Programs are personally designed for each student. For best results, an intensive program is recommended, which is 1-3 hours per day for 4-8 weeks, depending on individual goals and needs.

CAMP IVEY

Ages 7 -22

Camp Iveyoffers the chance to learn all about horses this summer. Learn safety, handling, grooming, tacking and riding. Camp includes additional instruction in ground-training, humane education with small animals and reptiles, as well as feeding, housing and daily care of horses.

Friends Camp - July 7 - Aug 7, 2014. This program offers children on the Autism Spectrum the experience of a day camp that has been modified to their needs. Christian Youth Theater (CYT) - offers a wide variety of affordable quality musical theater camps for ages 5 - 20. Campers rotate to a variety of theater classes including dance, drama & voice taught by qualified instructors. CRIMSON SPEECH & LANGUAGE CENTER

iCan Bike -June 2-6  at Sol City Sports Center at Alliant University. This camp teaches individuals with disabilities to ride a conventional two wheel bicycle and become lifelong independent riders. This achievement, in turn, creates a gateway of opportunity, helping them gain assurance and self-reliance in many other aspects of their lives. EASTER SEALS CAMP

Easter Seals Camp Oakes - a week-long residential camp serving children and adults with disabilities in the San Bernardino Mountains. It is held at Camp Oakes, an accredited American Camping Association site. -Sunday, August 3 through Saturday, August 9, 2014. -Camp elevation is 7,300 feet. -The fee is $750.

The camp is co-ed and campers must have some communication skills. -The counselor to camper ratio is approximately 1:2. -Campers stay in dormitories or 3-sided cabins. -Restrooms and showers are available. -A registered nurse is on 24-hour duty.

POVA THERAPEUTIC RIDING CENTER

PoVa is located on the pristine grounds of Creek Road Ranch, which is conveniently situated in a picturesque valley at the very south-west end of Poway. Working with some very special horses and a dedicated group of volunteers, we are able to offer private and semi-private lessons to children and adults with disabilities. Our lessons are taught both in the riding arena as well as along the trails that meander throughout the property. Our sensory trail combines the sights and sounds of nature with many exciting interactive activities for our students.

The "From Me to We" preschool program helps children, ages 3 - 6 with average language skills, improve their ability to connect with peers during interactive play and group activities by teaching social thinking concepts using storybooks and music, fun activities, and group play.

Be Social! Summer Social Thinking Groups, June 23 - July 25, 2014

THE AUTISM GROUP, INC. (TAG)

 

Mad Scientists Camp, an RDI® inspired summer camp, will have participants engage in hands-on projects, outdoor group games, collaborative experiences, and sensory-motor challenges, with access to our fun OT gym! The camp staff will guide the participants through new, meaningful experiences and discoveries all while building on competence, self-regulation, and strengthening social awareness.

Circle of Friends is TAG, Inc.’s first RDI® inspired summer program for preteens and teenagers! Teens will work on strengthening and building new peer relationships and developing social competence while on weekly outings to local establishments. Teenagers will be accompanied by TAG, Inc. employees to various outings to enjoy fun chitchat and quality time with their peers. Sample outings may include bowling, hiking, or museum trips. STEIN EDUCATION CENTER

 

 

Vista Hill Special Care Services - We offer facility based summer day care and respite services to individuals with I/DD, between the ages of 5 - 25 years. We are a service that is largely funded through the San Diego Regional Center (SDRC), however, parents can choose to pay for services out of pocket as well, if they do not have SDRC services. We provide activities that address social and interpersonal skill development (peer awareness, turn taking, sharing) and local community based instruction (street safety, et cetera). We staff at a 3:1, staff to student ratio. Our center is equipped to serve children with a wide range of abilities.
Activities range from table games (puzzles, board games, manipulatives, etc), cooking projects, music groups, arts and crafts and community walks and local outings.
