NFAR Works is an 11-month, comprehensive vocational training program for young adults with autism and related conditions. The Program offers participants the opportunity to explore job types while further identifying their areas of interests and strengths. The program helps to build job skills, that can be applied to any work situation, so that participants can be more competitive and successful in the workplace.

The program has four main components:

Basic Job Skills Training: Common skills, typical to the workplace are taught including MS Office Suite (Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Outlook), common office equipment, time management, office communication and work etiquette.

Soft Skills Training: Soft skills are an essential part of vocational training, and participants receive training in the soft skills needed for the work place. The core of the soft skills training is the SUCCESS (Supported Employment, Comprehensive Cognitive Enhancement, & Social Skills training) program. These soft skills are taught in small groups and are reinforced throughout the program through a variety of fun program activities geared towards building social skills, communication methods, friendships and teamwork. 

Work Experience and Exploration: Participants are given an opportunity to explore a variety of jobs, learning job skills in a simulated work environment. Designed to build work stamina, team work and confidence, participants learn new things through a combination of trainings, hands-on job tasks and repetition in a supportive environment.

Participants will be introduced to work assisgnments typically found in the following areas:

Job Readiness/Job Search: We prepare graduates for the job search consistent with their interest and mastery of skills in the program. Job Prep includes (1) Interest and skills assessments, (2) Resume Preparation and customization, (3) Job Search process, steps and tools, and (4) Interview preparation and practice.
