Autism is one of the fastest growing developmental conditions in the U.S. and affects as many as one in every 36 children in the United States. As the autism incidence rate rises, so do the number of students in our classrooms, and ways to support their educational needs.
NFAR is here to help! Each year, through funds raised by the Race for Autism, NFAR awards funding to educators to support the specialized academic needs of their students with autism. These awards give educators a vehicle for piloting new methodologies, as well as funding of technology and programs that address key areas of concern for autistic students, such as social skills training, developing effective communication skills for verbal and non-verbal students, as well as reducing sensory and behavioral issues that interfere with learning. Each year, NFAR strives to increase our reach to educators and their students across San Diego classrooms, including those identified as underserved.
