Teaching More than Just ABCs in Our Classrooms

  • 02 October 2014

Later this month, NFAR will be awarding Autism Teachers Grants for our tenth year. Through this program we have been able to meet a large number of talented and dedicated educators who are working creatively and passionately to help their students with special needs learn and thrive.

Beyond the grant initiatives, we sometimes hear about the day-to-day triumphs, and how excited and proud the teachers are of their students' accomplishments. As parents, these notes are inspiring to us and so, we thought we'd share a note from one such teacher with you.

Our recent classroom celebrations...
This week one Grade K student went into his PECS book for the 1st time and found his desired item. He loves music.

Another Grade K student is now wearing underwear this week instead of pull-ups. He also likes to count to 21.

This week, our third Grade K student went in the potty for the first time in his life. He likes dolphins.

One of our 1st graders just completed a "Goldilocks and 3 Bears" play with his general Ed. Class. He loves his Monday night football practices.

Another 1st grader read all of his sight words correctly. He also loves football practice.

Our 3rd 1st grader tolerated his hair being cut and toenails being cleaned. He loves technology.

A 2nd grader identified numbers 1-100. He loves candy corn and our classroom aquarium.

Another 2nd grader was able to unload the dishwasher and vacuum the carpet with minimal prompting. He loves to swing and jump on the trampoline.

Hope you have a great day!
